Bird’s-eye view: Watching osprey at Salmon Arm Bay

The sliding door to our hotel balcony framed Salmon Arm Bay: fluorescent green wetlands, silver-blue Shuswap Lake, a rolling horizon defined by the Fly Hills, and not 50 metres away, two ospreys sitting on a pick-up-sticks nest strewn across a platform atop a tall pole. A precocious teen chick, as big as its parents, made loud demands for food while Mom tore bits of fish with her beak and dropped them into its mouth. 21st Annual Salmon Arm Roots & Blues

The Salmon Arm Roots & Blues Festival is the largest and most musically diverse festival in the BC Interior. The event began in 1992 as a small indoor festival, a result of the grassroots Shuswap Coffee House collective of the 1970s and 80s, which by 1991 had coalesced into the not-for-profit Salmon Arm Folk Music Society.
