JCI Okanagan is introducing the public to a twist on the traditional wine event with the Okanagan Spirits Winetender’s Mixoff, October 9 at the Laurel Packinghouse.

“We are once again excited to be involved with an event that introduces people to the delicious and creative options available when mixing wine with spirits or liqueurs.” says Rodney Goodchild of Okanagan Spirits. “With some familiar faces and some new faces, we look forward to seeing what our region’s top bartenders will come up with.”

The event, part of the Okanagan Fall Wine Festival, challenges bartenders from local restaurants to create a cocktail using wine and spirits. Wines must be local and paired with the spirit or liqueur of choice produced locally at Okanagan Spirits. The 10 participating restaurants are then pairing their cocktails with food samples from their menu’s. Bartender’s will not only be trying to impress the panel of judges for the Judges Choice Award, but also the public with the People’s Choice Award.

Local restaurants are jumping to showcase the creativity and influences that they use in their dishes and want to showcase how the trend is to now apply these same techniques to the drinks that they serve.

“We wanted to create a fun event to cater to adults who enjoy food and wine,” says Corinne Shoranick, JCI Okanagan President. “We think that attendees will be impressed with the wide variety of food and the abundance of cocktails being sampled around the room. This is a fun and yet still affordable way to get out and enjoy the Fall Wine Festival.”
