Liquidity Wines estate-grown 2013 Chardonnay has been awarded a silver medal at the prestigious Chardonnay du Monde international competition in France. Now in its 23rd year, the annual competition received 782 submissions from 39 countries, which were judged by a tasting panel of 300 international experts.
Recognizing the world’s best Chardonnays, the awards provide a benchmark of quality in an increasingly competitive market: of the 259 medals awarded in this competition 132 went to French Chardonnays and 14 of those were given to Canadian wines.
Nestled in the heart of Okanagan Falls — overlooking breathtaking views of lakes Vaseux and Skaha in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley — Liquidity has become a captivating destination for wine lovers and visitors alike. Winemaker Alison Moyes and the Liquidity team pride themselves on making handcrafted wines that express the individuality of the vineyard, variation of the season and varietal. With a unique tasting room, rare and exceptional art installations and a prominent bistro, Liquidity offers an exceptional guest experience.
“We’re thrilled to be recognized as a world-class producer of Chardonnays,” says Moyes. “Our Chardonnay is 100% barrel fermented along with regular bâtonnage, bringing a rich and creamy texture to the wine. Tropical aromas of mango and pineapple are underscored by notes of vanilla, toast and almond. The palate has a beautiful complexity and acid balance. Layered flavours of passion fruit, kaffir lime, caramel, vanilla and light smoke carry through to a lingering finish.”
The Liquidity 2013 Chardonnay is available in Liquidity’s tasting room and online while stocks last (priced at $26 plus tax). It is also available at assorted private wine shops and restaurants throughout the Okanagan and Lower Mainland.
Tasting Notes
With toasty notes and aromas of lemon, pineapple, cloves, vanilla and butterscotch, this rich, creamy, well-balanced Chardonnay offers bright acidity and flavours of pineapple, lemon, apple, vanilla, caramel, allspice and a hint of smoke. Nice complexity and a long finish round out this wine. The perfect complement to a creamy risotto, breaded veal cutlets, crab, salmon or an herb-roasted chicken.
Winemaker’s Notes
The fruit was hand harvested in late September and whole cluster pressed. The juice was racked to French oak barrels (20% new) to undergo fermentation. Partial malolactic fermentation followed and the wine was aged on lees, with stirring for 11 months.
