One of the major new construction projects underway in 2013, the Kelowna Yacht Club will occupy a key spot on the Kelowna’s waterfront. The Club recently releases a video tour of the new clubhouse which is expected to open for summer 2014.
“The new clubhouse is going to be unique and something very iconic in terms of the waterfront on Lake Okanagan,” says Commodore Mike Terris of the Kelowna Yacht Club. The two-story, 24,000 sq. ft clubhouse includes public space and a public restaurant on the ground floor.
With the building situated on the club’s property immediately adjacent to Stuart Park, the club made a special effort to ensure the architecture complemented the features of the park. The clubhouse was designed to blend into both the park and Kelowna’s downtown. The video features interviews with Commodore Terris and two architects from Meiklejohn Architects (voted Best Architect/Design Firm by the readers of Okanagan Life) explaining the building features during the five-minute video tour.

“I can’t understate the role this is going to pay in the revitalization of the downtown core,” says architect Jim Meiklejohn. “This new building belongs to the community in a much more fundamental way, with the public restaurant and generous public balconies. It is really going to embrace the whole community.”
Rich in history and embracing the future, Kelowna Yacht Club is a boating community dedicated to providing our members educational, social and recreational opportunities.
