Kelowna’s Rotary Centre for the Arts is home to the Sugar Skull Strut on Saturday, November 1 from 8 pm until midnight. Tickets are $25.
Inspired by El Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a traditionally festive time of year in Mexico honoring past souls and loved ones the evening features festive faces and a latin flare.
Guaranteed to make you move is hard-hitting Latin dance band, MAZACOTE, playing horn-driven New York salsa dura with beats from Colombia, Puerto Rico and Cuba. Based in Vancouver, the band features Nicaraguan singer-songwriter David Lopez, latin jazz trumpeter Malcolm Aiken and a groove-heavy rhythm section featuring Chris Couto on timbales, Miguel Benavides on Congas, Aaron McKinney on bass, and pianist Niho Takase. Powerful vocals combined with driving afrocuban percussion and brassy mambos, introducing their son-inspired take on some of salsa’s hardest grooves.
