The love affair between Silver Star and local skiers and boarders continued for the third year in a row, as it was recently announced that Silver Star Mountain Resort had won the Best of the Okanagan Readers’ Choice Award from Okanagan Life Magazine for Best Ski Resort. Silver Star garnered four first place awards in the annual edition, most notably the honor as the best ski resort in the valley, edging out Big White and Apex Mountain.

“It’s a testament to our loyal pass holders and everyone in the Okanagan who voted for us,” says Haight. “It’s a recognition we don’t take lightly. Our success is a direct result of our strong local support and this award affirms that.”

As well as winning best resort for the third straight year, Silver Star was also named Best Family Resort in the North Okanagan, Best Place for Adrenaline Rush, and Best Tourist Attraction. Silver Star was also in the top three in the North Okanagan for Best Place to Get Married and Best Place to Hike.

The Christmas holiday season started at the resort with the annual Christmas Light Up event in the village on December 6th. Santa will return again with more family events leading up to the big day with crafts, caroling, photos with Santa, and a torchlight parade and fireworks display on December 24.

Silver Star Mountain Resort opened the backside of the ski mountain this week. All twelve of the resort’s lifts are operating with over 80 alpine runs open for skiing and snowboarding along with 53 km of Nordic trails.

Putnam Creek has 1,900 acres of skiable terrain with 90% of its runs categorized as black and double black diamond runs. This side of the mountain opened in the early 1990s with runs that are long, steep, and serviced by its own high-speed lift, the Powder Gulch Express. Beautifully pitched groomers, challenging moguls and narrow chutes comprise most of the runs.
