Still time to act on the resolution to learn in 2014: College Arts courses

Still time to act on the resolution to learn in 2014: College Arts coursesIf you rang in the New Year resolved to write a novel, learn to speak another language, or to expand career prospects through professional development, Okanagan College has a range of its academic Arts courses, at each of its campuses, to help reach those freshly-minted self-improvement goals.

This January, language lovers can choose from courses in French, German, and Spanish to enhance a summer holiday or to improve international business opportunities, while budding authors can hone their craft with like-minded colleagues in creative writing, non-fiction writing, journalism studies and professional communications offerings.

Additional offerings to satisfy the intellectually curious are available in a range of disciplines, including political science, anthropology, environmental studies, and philosophy.

Beyond the benefits of newly acquired knowledge or a broadening of horizons, adult learners expand their social networks. Known for its diverse student body and small class sizes, Okanagan College’s learning environment is a comfortable and welcoming setting for mature learners or those who have been out of school for some time.

University of Scranton researchers report that 47 per cent of the population made personal development one of their goals for 2014,  with “learning something exciting” ranking 6th on the list of Top 10 New Year’s resolutions.

Courses run on weekdays with some evening courses available. Registration is open until Jan. 17. The Winter 2014 academic term runs from January to April 11. The College also offers a host of general interest, professional development and certificate courses through its Continuing Studies department.
