Early snow falls and exceptional conditions are allowing one of Okanagan Valley’s top winter destinations, Silver Star Mountain Resort, to open its slopes to snow seekers for a bonus weekend November 23 and 24, with the regular season kicking off November 28. For the early bonus weekend, Silver Star Resort will give access to 25 runs with the Comet Six Pack and Silver Queen Quad chairlifts.
To celebrate the bonus weekend and opening, Silver Star Resort is supporting the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation’s 2013 ‘Light A Bulb’ campaign through its unique Season Opener Lift Ticket Sale. Lift ticket vouchers are being sold until November 23 at a special price of just $20 per person and are valid from November 28 to December 1. All proceeds will be donated to ‘Light A Bulb’ and will help fund the $2.5 million ‘Building a Tower of Care Campaign, Phase II’.
For those looking for an extra adrenaline rush, the opening of Putnam Creek area of Silver Star is just around the corner boasting 56 runs and over 1,800 feet of vertical. Local skiers and riders are anxiously awaiting the celebrated ‘Dropping of the Rope’ where they get to cross over to the back side of the resort and cut the first tracks on some exciting terrain.
“The rope drop is one my favourite local events of the season; Our guests get the first taste of the fresh powder on what has been called one of Canada’s best backsides,” says resort General Manager Michael Sherwood. “We are seeing solid snow fall, so if these conditions continue we could see Putnam Creek opening in early December.”
Recent snowfalls blanketing the mountain over the past few days have added to the current base of 90 cm.
