Old Love
Feb 3 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm
Old Love

The story spans 30 years and half a dozen meetings between Bud, a salesman, and Molly, his boss's wife. One of them is smitten from the very first meeting - the other, let's just say - less so. The play moves forward and back through their sporadic encounters, mostly manufactured by Bud, with each character baring their heart and soul to the other in poignant monologues.

?Canada's preeminent comic playwright, Norm Foster, has written a clever and witty dialogue celebrating the pursuit of love, the kind of love that 'makes you breathe just a little bit faster.' Charmingly written, Foster's use of one-liner’s serve the script well and has the audience smiling, chuckling and laughing throughout the play.

Jenn Grant: On Stage Concert @ Vernon & District Performing Arts Centre
Feb 3 @ 8:00 pm – 9:30 pm
Jenn Grant: On Stage Concert @ Vernon & District Performing Arts Centre | Vernon | BC | Canada

The Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre Society proudly presents Jenn Grant on Saturday and Sunday, February 3 and 4 at 8:00pm at the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre. Jenn Grant is the second and final performer in the Society's 2017/18 On Stage Concert Series. With the audience seated cabaret style on stage, our On-Stage Concert Series allows for audiences to relax and enjoy an up-close and personal concert in this intimate venue.

Singer/songwriter Jenn Grant brings the starry night to our stage with her new album Paradise. Exploring new soundscapes with an array of instrumentation, Paradise "expands to a galactic realm never before explored by the songwriter." The lyrics pull us into Grant's world as she explores relatable themes like love, growth, longing and reinvention. Using the piano as her primary song-writing instrument, Jenn's celebrated vocals and wordsmithing bring listeners in to stargaze along with her.

Nominated for Songwriter and Contemporary Album of the Year at the 2014 JUNO awards, Grant's previous album Compostela gained her international success. Having spent three years touring across the world from London to Vancouver, Grant won the hearts of audiences and critics alike, being described as one of the 'best singers in the world' and 'captivating'.

On her new album, Paradise, Grant has explored a new depth of sound. "I feel like I am a completely different artist from when I began performing. I don't feel like I really heard my own voice until recently," Grant writes. Both personal and epically emotive, Jenn Grant's On-Stage Concert performance will be an evening to remember.

Siberian Exile: Blood, War and a Granddaughter’s Reckoning
Feb 8 @ 6:45 pm – 8:00 pm
Siberian Exile: Blood, War and a Granddaughter's Reckoning

Award-winning author and assistant professor at the University of Missouri, Julija Šukys, will read from her 2017 book, Siberian Exile, which weaves together two narratives: the story of Ona, noble exile and innocent victim, and that of Anthony, accused war criminal. The book examines the stories that communities tell themselves, and considers what happens when the stories we’ve been told all our lives suddenly and irrevocably change, and how forgiveness or grace operate across generations and across the barriers of life and death.

About the author: Julija Šukys (PhD, U Toronto) is the author of three books, most recently Siberian Exile: Blood, War, and a Granddaughter’s Reckoning and Epistolophilia: Writing the Life of Ona Šimait?. Epistolophilia won the 2013 Canadian Jewish Book Award for Holocaust Literature. Her essays have appeared in the Tusculum Review, Queen’s Quarterly, Passages North, and elsewhere.

HOPE in Her Eyes @ The Laurel Packing House
Feb 9 @ 6:00 pm – 11:00 pm
HOPE in Her Eyes @ The Laurel Packing House | Kelowna | BC | Canada

Two local organizations have joined together to draw parallels and create compassionate awareness of the trials and tribulations of being a marginalized woman, both locally (represented by a night in the shoes of a homeless Kelowna woman) and globally (represented by a day in the life of an impoverished Nepali woman).

Join us as we raise funds to give back to these women who need us. Women who could be your mother, sister, daughter or aunt.

Friday, February 9th, we'll come together at the Laurel PackingHouse for networking, delicious Nepalese food, and an art auction featuring local artists work who have depicted their own interpretations of women’s struggles through the part of the soul that we can see: their eyes.

Join us to create HOPE in HER eyes.

Snowed In Comedy Tour - 10 Year Anniversary @ Kelowna Community Theatre | Kelowna | BC | Canada

The Snowed In Comedy Tour has turned in to a Canadian success story. Celebrating it’s tenth year. In a market still dominated by American acts with American TV credits a small Canadian comedy tour has managed to succeed. Like the Tragically Hip they have done it by touring and making more and more people laugh year after year. The tour has now performed in Australia, The US, France, and Switzerland. The 2017 tour received numerous Standing Ovations and was the most successful to date. It has now grown to become one of the largest comedy tours in Canada.

Four international comedians come together to create one amazing show with each bringing a unique and hilarious take providing something for everyone. Just for Laughs winner Dan Quinn is back along with the wild man MC Craig Campbell. The $25,000 great Canadian laugh off winner, Paul Myrehaug, returns this year as well as 5 time Canadian Comedian of the year nominee, Pete Zedlacher. Don’t miss out on the comedy show called “Better than the Just for Laughs tour” and “Delivers a Flurry of Laughs”.
