The YMCA of Okanagan’s largest annual fundraiser, Cycle for Strong Kids, took place last weekend outside H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre, raising over $65,000 for local children and families.

“The event was a huge success,” says YMCA Development Coordinator, Pam Murkin. “39 teams registered in total with over 270 cyclists participating throughout the day. We had some great prizes to hand out, massages by donation and a lot of other goodies for those who joined us. We are really pleased with the results and support we received from the community.”

From 8 am until 2 pm on Saturday, September 13, pre-registered teams participated in 45-minute stationary cycle classes to raise money for local kids. Some teams had special shirts made for the occasion with others dressed in themed costumes making the day a fun, team building experience for all.

“100% of the proceeds from Cycle for Strong Kids goes towards providing membership, child care and camping experiences for local kids,” says YMCA Communications Coordinator, Erica Hudson. “We raise money so that kids have a safe place to go after school or so they can learn to swim…opportunities that can make a positive impact in their lives.”

The YMCA of Okanagan would like to thank everyone who participated, volunteered and donated to Cycle for Strong Kids this year. “Our title sponsors, Delcourt Wealth Management at Scotia McLeod and Fresh Air Concept/Experience, and our event day sponsors, Q103 & Power 104 Radio, Milestones, Jugo Juice’s H2O location, PowerPlant and EnCompass HR Benefits & Solutions, helped make this year’s event possible,” says Murkin.

The amount raised through Cycle for Strong Kids is equivalent to providing 260 children with an annual membership where they can build valuable skills, character and self-esteem.
