Paint-Off

Wander through the majestic Caetani Gardens in downtown Vernon and take in original art, displayed by local artist vendors who will be showcasing and selling their work on Saturday, September 21, 9 am to 1 pm. See the tour schedule below.

Accomplished artists, Michelle Loughrey and Ryan Ryan, battle head to head to in live action painting starting at 11 am. Loughery will be painting Sveva Caetani, and Ryan will depict her mother, Ofelia. Both Loughery and Ran have strong ties to the Caetani House, being former residents and influenced by the impact the Caetani family had on the local arts community.

Following Viva d’Arte, head over to Allan Brooks Nature Centre to meet Paul Roux, our September international Artist-in-Residence for the Fresh! AiR collaborative program with the Allan Brooks Nature Centre. Paul is working on an ongoing dialogue with at-risk and endangered species called Project: Apology. Join Paul for a workshop and artist presentation from 1 to 4 pm.

Paul Roux is a South African native, and comes to the Okaganan via Boston and California. He graduated in 1998 from the Michaelis School of Fine Art (University of Cape Town, South Africa). After a detour into advertising and marketing, his recommitment to the fine arts over the last several years has seen a number of awards and solo exhibitions, as well as scholarship for further study at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. His work is represented in collections in Europe, South Africa and the US.

Paul works in painting, video and performance art, and will be working in the region while living at the Caetani House until the end of Septemeber. He can be found most Monday and Tuesdays from 10 am to  5 pm.

Tours are $2 per person or $7 per family.

Located at 3401 Pleasant Valley Road, the Caetani Cultural Centre is a venue for visual artists from around Canada and the world to explore a diverse range of arts practices, theories and experiences. The Centre was established in 2008 in the Okanagan Valley  at the former home of renowned artist, mentor and teacher Sveva Caetani.
