Award-winning-Chef-David-Hawksworth-Mile-High-wineOne of Canada’s leading culinary talents and the mastermind behind Vancouver’s number one rated restaurant, Chef David Hawksworth, will host a special dinner to kick off Silver Star Mountain Resort Wine and Food Festival on the weekend of August 8.

Chef Hawksworth has appeared as a guest judge on Food Network Canada’s Top Chef and his Vancouver-based Hawksworth Restaurant was winner of Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards in 2012 and 2013 for Restaurant of the Year and Chef of the Year. Maclean’s magazine named it Canada’s Restaurant of the Year in 2012.

An Evening with David Hawksworth is an opportunity to experience fine dining with contemporary Canadian cuisine by a renowned chef in the beautiful setting of the Okanagan. Normally anchored at the helm of Vancouver’s dining scene, award-winning Chef Hawksworth is planning a special four-course menu, paired with Okanagan wines, for the evening of Friday August 8.

"Being a part of food and wine festivals like this one at Silver Star Mountain Resort is a privilege and always a memorable experience,” says Chef David Hawksworth. “As a chef I feel very lucky to live in a part of the world that is so beautiful and supplies us with such excellent produce and none more so than here in the Okanagan."

“This is the first time we have collaborated with a high-profile Chef like David,” said Jesse Crockett, Silver Star’s hospitality director. “This is a special opportunity for culinary enthusiasts to sample the delights of a famous Chef at a location other than his restaurant.”

Food and wine enthusiasts are invited to the Den Bar and Bistro to experience a symphony of flavours inspired by local, seasonal ingredients. Chef Hawksworth is working closely with Silver Star’s talented food and beverage professionals to execute an array of high-quality and delicious culinary masterpieces.

The evening of fine dining will commence with a reception at 6 p.m. with dinner to follow at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are limited and cost $230 per person including gratuity, plus GST. Guests will receive $50 off the dinner ticket if purchasing accommodation and tickets together.

For more casual diners, Chef Hawksworth is hosting a special interactive cooking demonstration for a small audience at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday August 9. Guests are invited to observe the award-winning chef prepare a dish of choice with a tasting to follow.

In addition to Hawksworth’s special appearance, Silver Star’s Wine and Food Festival features various food and wine seminars and art gallery viewings. Packages start from $133 including accommodation in Silver Star’s colourful mid-mountain village and Mile High Wine Tasting tickets.

The uniquely Mile High Wine Tasting is an Okanagan Wine Festivals Signature Event in partnership with Silver Star Mountain Resort. It begins at 4 p.m. on Saturday August 9 and attracts over 30 passionate winemakers from across the Okanagan/Similkameen region. Among those showcasing their finest varietals are Sandhill Vineyard, Summerhill Pyramid Winery and Meyer Family Vineyards. Guests will savour the wines of the Okanagan and revel in fresh mountain air in a stunningly beautiful outdoor setting.
