PRODUCTION

Requirements for Materials Submitted for Production

As your magazine advertising partner, Okanagan Life takes every step to ensure that the advertising you place in our magazines meets the highest professional standards. Marketing in today’s Okanagan business climate requires nothing less. To these ends, we need your help in maintaining these high standards. Please follow the material requirements below to make sure that your advertising experience with Okanagan Life is the best it can be. Email production@okanaganlife.com with any questions.

(Note to our advertising partners: Materials we receive not meeting the following requirements may require work on our part to make them reproducable and will incur production charges.)

Submissions of materials to our production department can be emailed to production@okanaganlife.com or uploaded to our FTP server. Please email or call us to receive the info needed for an FTP transfer.

Please see below for the file types we will accept. We are an all-Macintosh office, and we use Adobe software, including Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator to build all magazine ads.

We will NOT accept ad files of the following types:

  • Microsoft Word (unless it’s text only)
  • Microsoft Publisher
  • QuarkXPress
  • CorelDraw

If you built your ad in one of these programs, you will need to convert your files to one of the types below. If you have any questions, please email production@okanaganlife.com.

Complete Magazine Ad files should be: (sent to us via email, CD, or FTP)

  • First choice: PDF/X-1a format
  • Second choice: Adobe Illustrator with all type converted to outlines. (All images, embedded or otherwise, must be CMYK)
  • Otherwise we require a TIFF file of the ad that is correctly sized and allows for 1/8″ bleed if a full page. Must be 300 dpi and CMYK

Please DO NOT use Pantone colors (or other spot colors) as anything designated as a spot color will have to be converted by us to CMYK and may not reproduce as intended. Avoid this by building all of your color as CMYK.

NOTE: All ads MUST be sized exactly as per our dimensions. Download a PDF of our ad sizes

Digital PHOTOS (includes pics sent to us via email, disk or FTP)

  • Must be at least 300 dpi (dots per inch) resolution. (If not 300 dpi, then the size of the image must be large enough that it allows us to convert the image to 300 dpi at the final output size without loss of resolution – For example: An image that is 72 dpi and 22″ by 15″ will convert to an output image that is 300 dpi and about 5″ by 3.5″).
  • Must not be any smaller in size than the final size it is to be printed at. (For Example: A pic received at 2″ by 1″ will not work if the final output size is to be any larger, such as 5″ by 4″)
  • Must be sent in either TIFF, EPS, or JPEG file format. (If JPEG, please avoid use of high compression as this degrades the quality of the photo).

NOTE: We CANNOT accept Microsoft Word documents with pics embedded in them. Word documents are not picture files. JUST SAY NO TO MICROSOFT WORD!

Digital LOGOS (includes logos sent to us via email, disk or FTP)

  • Our #1 preference: to receive the logo in Adobe Illustrator file format. (This is a vector format and can be scaled and printed clean and sharp every time.)
  • If not in Adobe Illustrator format, then logos are governed by the same rules as other digital photos. (See above)
