Old Love
Feb 3 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Old Love

The story spans 30 years and half a dozen meetings between Bud, a salesman, and Molly, his boss's wife. One of them is smitten from the very first meeting - the other, let's just say - less so. The play moves forward and back through their sporadic encounters, mostly manufactured by Bud, with each character baring their heart and soul to the other in poignant monologues.

?Canada's preeminent comic playwright, Norm Foster, has written a clever and witty dialogue celebrating the pursuit of love, the kind of love that 'makes you breathe just a little bit faster.' Charmingly written, Foster's use of one-liner’s serve the script well and has the audience smiling, chuckling and laughing throughout the play.

Jenn Grant: On Stage Concert @ Vernon & District Performing Arts Centre
Feb 3 @ 8:00 pm – 9:30 pm
Jenn Grant: On Stage Concert @ Vernon & District Performing Arts Centre | Vernon | BC | Canada

The Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre Society proudly presents Jenn Grant on Saturday and Sunday, February 3 and 4 at 8:00pm at the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre. Jenn Grant is the second and final performer in the Society's 2017/18 On Stage Concert Series. With the audience seated cabaret style on stage, our On-Stage Concert Series allows for audiences to relax and enjoy an up-close and personal concert in this intimate venue.

Singer/songwriter Jenn Grant brings the starry night to our stage with her new album Paradise. Exploring new soundscapes with an array of instrumentation, Paradise "expands to a galactic realm never before explored by the songwriter." The lyrics pull us into Grant's world as she explores relatable themes like love, growth, longing and reinvention. Using the piano as her primary song-writing instrument, Jenn's celebrated vocals and wordsmithing bring listeners in to stargaze along with her.

Nominated for Songwriter and Contemporary Album of the Year at the 2014 JUNO awards, Grant's previous album Compostela gained her international success. Having spent three years touring across the world from London to Vancouver, Grant won the hearts of audiences and critics alike, being described as one of the 'best singers in the world' and 'captivating'.

On her new album, Paradise, Grant has explored a new depth of sound. "I feel like I am a completely different artist from when I began performing. I don't feel like I really heard my own voice until recently," Grant writes. Both personal and epically emotive, Jenn Grant's On-Stage Concert performance will be an evening to remember.

Ballet Jörgen’s Anastasia: Dance Series @ Vernon & District Performing Arts Centre
Feb 20 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm
Ballet Jörgen's Anastasia: Dance Series @ Vernon & District Performing Arts Centre | Vernon | BC | Canada

For the third show in our 2017/2018 Dance Series, the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre Society is proud to present Ballet Jörgen's Anastasia, on Tuesday, February 20 2018 at 7:30 pm.

Canada’s Ballet Jörgen takes us all the way back to 1918 Russia with their presentation of Anastasia. This full-length story ballet is brought to our stage, celebrating the well-known story’s 100th anniversary. Set to an original score by Russian/Canadian composer Ivan Barbotin, Anastasia features a 16-person ensemble and flawless direction from choreographer Bengt Jörgen.

Anastasia centers around a seventeen-year-old Grand Duchess who is born to privilege but cast out into a post-revolutionary world. Find out what will become of her as the innocent daughter of the fallen Russian Tsar faces love, loss and heartache in an unknown world. This popular tale has inspired a multitude of books, movies and musicals over the last century, making the character the subject of modern mythology.

Bengt Jörgen, artistic director and CEO of Ballet Jörgen, chose Anastasia based on his personal interest in Russian history and the real-life disappearance of the young girl in 1918. Having worked with composer Ivan Barbotin before on two of the company’s most popular ballets The Velveteen Rabbit and The Emperor’s New Clothes, their partnership has made the production impossible to resist.

Ballet Jörgen is renowned for its ability to succinctly tell classic stories in an engaging and dramatic fashion. Paired with breathtaking costumes, impressive sets and superb lighting, Anastasia invites audiences to discover the tragic mystery of the young Grand Duchess and explore romance and mythology in the ballrooms of St. Petersburg and beyond.

Tickets for Anastasia are $45 for adults, $42 for seniors, $40 for students and are now on sale through the Ticket Seller Box Office by calling 250-549-SHOW (7469) or online at www.ticketseller.ca.
